There goes the neighborhood...

Today we walked around the neighborhood for a while and took pictures.
This is our street looking east. Our place is the 2-story red brick building in the middle. This is the street we live on as you step out our door.
to the West-
and to the East-This is Williamsburg proper-This is Tasha in the park by the East River. This is Manhattan from the Williamsburg side. The East River is only 5 blocks from our place.
That's all for today.

My turn...

Tasha posted first which leaves my turn next.

Since we arrived a couple of months ago and haven't posted until recently, I figure I would fill you in with a few events.

This is the Pratt campus. It's basically 25 acres of college campus protected by a 7-foot iron fence that separates it from the surrounding ghetto. This is where I go basically everyday.

Also, last weekend we went to New Jersey to meet up with my Uncle and Aunt as well as a large group of her family. We met them at the Papermill Playhouse to see a rendition Godspell that went from people dressed in pig costumes to the Crucifixion of Christ within minutes. Afterwards we traveled to Hoboken for dinner. Here are pictures from Hoboken.

Maiden Voyage!

So we were finally bored enough, i.e. avoiding homework and housework, to begin our blog. We have talked about this for awhile how it would be a good idea for our friends and family back home to see what we are up to as well as a good place to post pics instead of e-mailing them all over the place... So here it is!! Please bear with us at first we are still trouble-shooting with setting up the look of the page. Of course we don't like any of the templates so we are trying to edit them match our liking.. we will see what develops. So I promised many people that I would send them pics of the apartment very soon. However I still haven't finished all of the projects that I want to so I don't have any great pics yet.The apartment has been keeping me very busy, which is good since I still haven't found a job yet. It has been very interesting setting the place up from scratch with no money, no idea where stores are and trying to figure out how to get things on to the subway. I promise to post some pics this week, if you can keep in mind it is still a work in progress!

We had a perfect weather fall weather this weekend and took full advantage of with a trip to the city on Sat. We haven't done that many tourist activities yet so we decided to brave Times Square and Grand Central Station. It was very busy and we felt a little silly walking around taking pics but all in all it was a lot of fun. This is me walking towards Grand Central while Cailen stopped to take a picture.
Guide books always talk about how this is a great place to people watch, but I think it is a better place to gawk at the architecture. It is beautiful inside! It's kind of a shame that is just a train and subway station. The rest of the weekend was spent hanging out with friends at our new favorite bar, The Pub. It is less than a block away has cheap beer and great music, pretty much our best find yet! Also we did some more research on finding our favorite neighborhood pizza place- no winner yet but we will post as soon as we have done all of the proper testing! Well I suppose that is it for our first post, but I am sure there will be much more to follow!
